On November 23, 2022, CATALER SOUTH AFRICA (PTY.) LTD (commonly called CSA) received a letter of thanks from TOYOTA SOUTH AFRICA (PTY.) LTD (commonly called TSAM).
When the TSAM’s facility was seriously damaged by a great flood, which occurred in April 2022, many CSA members went to TSAM to help recover their equipment. The letter of thanks was given to CSA because their great contribution towards TSAM’s earlier production restart was recognized.
CSA will continue to give assistance to TSAM as it hopes it can be of some help to the best of its ability.
On November 14, 2022, the “FY2022 Deming Prize” awards ceremony was held at Keidanren Kaikan in Otemachi, Tokyo. The Deming Prize is an award to be given to a private organization or an individual that has contributed to the advancement of TQM (Total Quality Management)(※).
Cataler China (科特拉［無錫］汽車環保科技有限公司) becomes the second company within the CATALER Group to receive a Deming Prize, following our (CAC’s) receiving the Deming Prize in 2015 as well as our winning the Deming Grand Prize in 2018.
Even after the awarding of this prize, the company will continuously make efforts to promote TQM. We look forward to your continuing support.
On October 4, 2022, the Deming Prize Committee within the Union of Japanese Scientists and Engineers decided to give the Deming Grand Prize to Cataler China (科特拉［無錫］汽車環保科技有限公司).
By this awarding, Cataler China(CCC) becomes the second company within the CATALER Group to receive a Deming Prize, following our (CAC’s) receiving the Deming Prize in 2015 as well as our winning the Deming Grand Prize in 2018.

This company was founded in 2002 in Wuxi City in Jiangsu Province, China, as one of the overseas bases of the CATALER Group when exhaust gas regulations started to be tightened in China as the country’s motorization advanced.
It has been manufacturing and selling exhaust catalysts for automobiles and motorcycles, with Toyota Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd. as its main customer.
Now the company has 200 employees (as of January 2022), and its total sales in fiscal 2021 is 6.86 billion renminbi (123.9 billion yen).
Cataler China has engaged in its buisiness activities centering on the development of human resources, while defending its No.1 position within the Group in terms of the indexes of safety, quality, and productivity. But in order to enjoy this good position for a long time to come, it has started to work to strengthen its TQM activities, setting the goal of building up a buisiness infrastructure which enables sustainable growth.
In the meantime, the company has been working on other unique activities, such as developing human assets that can “do an obvious thing in an obvious way,” promoting company-level cost reduction toward profitability reform, and performing process management in cooperation with the staff department.
As the results of these efforts, even in this difficult buisiness environment, Cataler China firmly maintains its sales amount and keeps its sales profit at a high level. Furthermore, it continues to have no customer complaints and no serious quality problems, while improving both the local staff rate and employees retention rate.

On September 7, 2022, an event was held to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the founding of CATALER NORTH AMERICA CORPORATION (or “CNA”).
Our employees, and people from our affiliated companies, gathered together and had a great time watching congratulatory video messages as well as the memorial footage about the 20th anniversary of CNA’s founding.
On the following day (Sep. 8), the opening ceremony for CNA’s satellite plant (or the “Hickory Plant”) was held. Among the attendees were, besides our relevant personnel, the commission chairman of Catawba County (where CNA is located), the mayor of Hickory, and people from our affiliated companies. And we received a lot of words of congratulations from them.
By promoting the use of equipment automation in order to save manpower, the Hickory Plant aims to be a manufacturer of products which are higher in quality and lower in price than ever before.
In addition, this plant would also serve as the backup plant if CNA’s headquarters plant was damaged by some incidents, such as natural disasters. (These two plants are 16km apart in a straight line.)
CNA’s satellite plant is scheduled to start operation from October 2023.
Developing equipment based on cost priority
At CATALER, we have been developing our own innovative mass-production equipment, in which every minimum component is designed separately, so that the entire system can be flexibly rearranged in order to reduce waste of the equipment cost when a commercial production starts.
Buisiness Continuity Management
Here we will introduce to you CATALER’s own Buisiness Continuity Management system, which has enabled us to achieve the contribution to local communities as well as the continuous supply of our products to the customers, while putting first priority on human life and safety.
On May 17, 2022, CATALER SOUTH AFRICA (CSA) obtained the international standard “ISO 45001” certification for occupational safety and health management system.
Cataler believes that a company cannot grow sustainably without ensuring the “occupational safety” and “health” of its employees. We are working to eradicate occupational accidents, correct long working hours, and improve mental health in order to provide a safe and healthy work environment.
On August 26, 2021, CATALER Thailand CO., LTD (CTC) celebrated its 25th anniversary.
